Rules and Information
The 2011 Pony Baseball Rule and Regulation Book along with the Official Rules of Major League Baseball govern play. Listed below are some exceptions to the rules necessary for the tournament.
There will be a pre-tournament meeting at the Wakefield Ball Park. Brackets will be given at that time. Please bring a copy of your roster at that time for the Tournament Director to keep.
TEAMS
A.
Must have 12 but no
more than 15 players. Rosters and ages must be registered with the
tournament chairman prior to tournament play. A copy of the roster
must be provided to the Tournament Director prior to the first game.
Once the roster is submitted to the Tournament Director, no
substitutions or additions can be made to the roster during the
tournament.
B. Any number of players may be 7 or 8 years old.
C. Age for tournament purposes means that age must be attained by a player prior to April 30, 2011. (League age as defined in Pony book.)
D. All players can be listed on the batting order. If a player is late arriving to the game, they will be skipped the first time through the batting order, with no penalty or out. Second time through the lineup, they will be scratched from the lineup for the remainder of that game.
PLAYING FIELD
A. Bases- 50 feet
B. Pitching: 38 feet; Coach pitch
EQUIPMENT
A. Catchers are required to wear mask with complete head protection, approved throat guard, cup and chest protector while catching behind the plate.
B. Heart-guards are required for position pitchers.
LENGTH OF GAMES
A. No ties. Games will be played until there is a winner.
B. 6 innings constitutes a game (if time allows).
C.
5 run limit per inning - no continuation rule.
D. 6th inning, must get three outs. Unlimited runs in 6th inning. In event of extra inning(s), the same as the 6th inning.
E. Slaughter Rule will be 10 runs after 4 1/2 innings.
PROTEST
B. Protest Committee: Tournament Director (or his designate) and one (1) representative (can not be head coach) from each team. The decision is final.
OTHER RULES
A. Maximum of six (6) pitches per batter or three (3) swings.
B. One (1) warning on slinging of bat per player. Second offense results in dead ball, batter out, runners returned to original bases.
C. Overthrow - all you can get - live ball.
D. Base running - no halfway rule.
E. Bat Roster - Play 10 (maximum) on defense; sub on defense anytime – batting order must remain the same.
F. Must have 4 outfielders with all outfielders having an initial position on the grass.
G. One offensive conference per inning.
H. Optional courtesy runner for the catcher only. Runner will be the player that was the previous out.
I. Coaches or Fans ejected from a game will not be allowed to return for the remainder of the tournament.
J. Players ejected from a game will not be allowed to participate for the remainder of that game and will be ineligible to play in the teams next game.
K. No bats marked “Coach Pitch” allowed.
ADMISSION
GENERAL PASS is $2.00 per day per person for all ages; TOURNAMENT PASS will be available.
MISCELLANEOUS
B. Teams are to be at the playing site 45 minutes prior to the start of their scheduled game.
C.
All fees, game baseballs, and paperwork must be turned in and
complete to the Tournament Director before the team's first game is
played.
D. Two (2) copies of the team roster are to be turned in: one for the Tournament Director and one for the announcer.
E. Two (2) copies of the team lineup are to be turned in; one for the opposing team and one for the announcer.
F.
Coin flips before every game (including Championship) to determine
HOME team.
G. Shirt tails of all players and coaches must be tucked in at
all times. Coaches will be required to have a minimum of a team
shirt and athletic shoes.
